PARMAR IN INDIA

SEPTEMBER 2008 TRIP A REAL SUCCESS

Sanjeev traveled to India in March 2008 to work with Youth Football Club Rurka Kalan in the state of Punjab. This trip was organized as a pioneering event to scan the potential of Punjabi football. Sanjeev worked with the YFC academy players and donated a set of adidas balls, practise jerseys, cleats, goalkeeper gloves and frisbees for training purposes.

With a view to stem the increasing use of drugs among the youth of the village and surrounding areas, Gurmangal Dass, a young resident of the village decided to form a football club. The aim was to use football as a means to divert the youth from drugs to a more active and healthy lifestyle.

Residents of the village of Rurka Kalan, assisted in the setting up of the football pitch and two practice pitches by hauling soil from a nearby location, levelling it, laying an under ground irrigation system and the laying of the turf. The club ensured that the community would be a part of the proposed solution to the drug abuse.

In partnership with Gurmangal Dass (founder and president of YFC) and Harmit Kamboe of Toronto, Parmar Sports Training Inc. is developing a long term athlete and coach development program where we can steadily see a growth in the number of youth playing the beautiful game of soccer in Punjab.

At the present moment Parmar Sports Training Inc. is attempting to put together a team of qualified specialists who would be intereted in travelling to Punjab, India for 10 - 14 days to do charity work.  We are looking for the following specialists:

Energetic coaches: work with the youth academy teams

Coaches Instructor: work with the coaches of Punjab

Doctor: develop a nutritional guideline for the athletes

Nurse: Physical examinations

Sports psychologist: Goal setting, mental training & long term planning
